The action is set in an alternate universe. In the middle of the 20th century, 43 women, who have never been pregnant before, simultaneously give birth to babies with superpowers. An alien hiding under the guise of Sir Reginald Hargreaves rescues the seven newborns and creates the Umbrella Academy. Together they use their talents to protect Earth. Years later, after the Academy disintegrates, the students meet at Harggreaves' funeral. They must reunite to protect humanity and confront one of their former Academy comrades.rn
